The aeration chamber employs a suspended media to enhance treatment. This upper media provides a stable home for bacterial colonies to inhabit. The packed lower media provides a filtration mechanism while the continuous sludge return enables the efficient reduction of suspended solids in the effluent. Additionally, twice each day, an automatic backwash routine stirs the media with air to thoroughly break up accumulated materials, which are then returned to the sedimentation chamber.
